When you get off at Mojiko Station and walk down the bright and open Dairen Street with the sea on your right, you will see a building that looks like a glass sailing ship.
This is the Kanmon Strait Museum.
Although it is a ship, it serves as a symbol of the future of Mojiko, resembling a science fiction spaceship that could take off into the sky.
Enter the museum and take the elevator up to the observation deck on the 5th floor for a panoramic view of the Kanmon Strait.
The geography and nature where Honshu and Kyushu, the Sea of Japan and the Seto Inland Sea meet have made it a key point of sea and land transportation throughout history.
This history has continued to nurture the diverse and complex culture of not only Mojiko, but also Japan and East Asia, from ancient times to the present.
As you descend in a gentle spiral through the atrium interior to the 4th floor, you can enjoy learning about the nature, history, and culture of the Kanmon Strait using the latest technology.
The Art Deco building on the mountainside of the Kanmon Strait Museum is called the "Retro Box," and it recreates the townscape and liveliness of Mojiko Port, which flourished as an international trading port from the Meiji to Taisho and Showa eras, in a box that makes you feel as if you have traveled back in time.
Cute trams stop at the "Kaikyo Retro Street" on the first and second floors, and as you pass through the recreated building, you can hear the sound of banana sales.
When the color of the blue sky on the ceiling changes and the town is enveloped in the deep shadows of the twilight and night sky, you can imagine the lives and feelings of people at that time.
In addition to the souvenir corner, a multi-purpose hall and music equipment can be rented, making it an ideal venue for events, concerts, and photo shoots.
