Event 1:
Competitive Karuta using Hyakunin Isshu

Competitive Karuta (Kyogi-Karuta, "競技かるた") using Hyakunin Isshu ("百人一首") is between two players, who sit on a tatami floor facing each other. First they bow and say “Yoroshiku onegaishimasu”. The Karuta game begins with a bow, and finishes with a bow, like a Judo match. Politeness is very important. You can see the detail of the rules here. You can see the real competitive karuta close to you at the conference venue. Please enjoy the hot battle of competitive karuta players.

Event 2:
Try-on Hakama

Hakama

Hakama ("袴") are a type of traditional Japanese clothing. A paort of Competitive Karuta players wear Hakama. In this event, attendees can try on Hakama and take a commemorative photograph. If you would like to wear Hakama, please feel free to comtact IAR 2023 Secretariat.
